Lou-lou and the great tooth ordeal of 2011

This story really starts about three months ago. Sometime early in June.... Our sweet abi came into our room after she was supposed to be in bed with a tooth ache. Sure enough she had two little spots on her bottom molars. I took her to a pediatric dentist, after x-rays and a brief exam he sent us home with two options. #1. For $1500 upfront he would cap them. That's after our insurance part. #2. For the low low price of $4,000 upfront we could take care of them in a hospital under sedation. Neither option was feasible for us, so our adult dentist gave us a prescription for a special toothpaste that we could use until we figured out what to do. Labor day she woke up swollen and numb. After 5 calls to "emergency" dentists and not being able to talk to a single one of them, we headed to the hospital. Photobucket Seriously this girl just loves to be happy. Swollen, can't open her mouth to chew and still grinning. Photobucket Here she is with her best serious face. ;-) I was truong to get a shot of her swollen little face. The ER Dr really put us at ease. He said that this had become a trend with the dentists in our area and they see kiddos like Abi 3x's a week! He gave us prescription and sent us home. But not before Abi got a bravery certificate. :-D Photobucket Chic-fil-a was a treat for all of us! While the kiddos were enjoying the play place I called my sister who is married to a Dentist. I really hesitated to do this. I didn't want him to feel like we were taking advantage... He was very nice though. Told us to call his office and make an app. Fast forward two more weeks. I called our babysitter who agreed to get up early and go down with us. Photobucket Big girl in a bigger chair. Our Aunt Kiki was assisting Unca Jeremy so, BONUS! She got through the whole drilling/filing part without nitrous, or numbing medication, or TEARS! Photobucket She did have a bit of a freak out when Unca Jeremy had to slide a "torture device" down near the gums. But when she was done he had saved the two teeth from being extracted, she was happy, I was relieved! We are going back in a month to do the other side, and I have to say, he did a great job and I might even let him work on mine. ;-)

  1. That little girl is so, so cute. I just want to get a hold of her and kiss her. So glad Jeremy was able to help. I know how hard the dentist thing is... we have had some difficulties trying to keep up with Dentists. We have had some major debts from the adoption, and then the dental bills alone were enough to need a 3rd mortgage on the house. We have never had dental coverage, so trying to make it all work is a challenge, and I certainly sympathize with you. Blessings to little Abi; the precious bug, and blessings to your brother in law.
    Much Love,
    Pam

  2. Makes me glad to be in the UK where dentistry is free for children!
