What do you think of when I say "Foster home"?

I'll admit, when we first started thinking about foster care,  I had all the horror stories that my Mother-In-Law told us about her childhood.  

She was put in foster care as a young child and she and her siblings were broken up and passed around.  I remember the pain in her voice as she spoke about watching her little brothers through the back of the car window, as they drove to the next house to deposit another sibling.  60yrs later that wound was still raw, and still very much part of how she thought of herself.

There are currently 2,000 children in foster care, in Colorado and somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,600 certified foster homes.

Maybe you've been thinking about becoming a foster parent, or maybe you think we're nuts and need something funny/crazy/a-typical to read and take you into another "world".  Either way, welcome to ours.

In our world we celebrate differences.
We don't do anything "normal".
Currently we have all kinds of challenges, everything from dyslexia to foot abnormalities and just about every body part in between.

We are both stay at home parents and we're still mushy after 18yrs of marriage.
(No, no.  That's not true,  we're mushy "again" after 18yrs.  but that's another story for another time.)

We are defying the odds and the diagnoses.

We also surround ourselves with other families that are remarkable!
Parents and children that are putting themselves second every day,  sometimes minute to minute,  they are our heroes!

We are also going to be seeing some of our beautiful country.  3 states in the next 3 days and a cruise with a few islands thrown in later this year!

So much fun, and the reality checks... there will be a lot of those.  But we're not doing this "open book" thing to be phoney. This isn't a scripted show. This is real life with 5 special needs kids, a diva who thinks she's 20, a tiny engineer,  and the sweet boy who is growing into a man that started it all.
Then there's our daddy... But you'll see lots of him and get a good feel for why we are so "seat of our pants,  but lots of fun".

Country living,  foster parenting,  home-schooling, special needs loving, adopting, fun filled family.
